SPSC SUP Open December 2022

SPSC OPEN SUP Surf #2 - Weather guesstimate by JB

We are on again people, SPSC Open SUP surf is this weekend. And we have plenty of swell on the way! Arriving from Lunch time Thursday and growing into Friday, we should see some sizey swell the entire way down the coastline in excess of 3m. This will be joined with some strong SW and Southerly winds throughout Friday and Saturday.

The good news is, it looks like things will be calming down a little for Sunday presenting us with opportune conditions for OPEN SUP! Swell in the 2m realm from the south will be very contestable waves. The wind will still be around a bit, but not as strong Friday and Saturday, so my best guess would be South Palm Beach for the event location (Between the Change sheds and the two rocks).

We can expect up to head high waves with the odd set over from the south, so they'll be wrapping to get into South Palmy helping with managing the size and quality (expecting nice rights off the rip). Low tide is mid morning around 10:50am at 0.5m and the temps should creep into the 20's as the morning progresses. Winds from the south around 10kn with gusts under 20kn.

So register now so we can get the draw done up early and make the most of the early higher tides. It is looking like an epic day with good open SUP swell to allow you to rip to your fullest!

SPSC Open Comp #2

Palm Beach (with alternate locations available in case of weather),
Sunday 18 December
Starting 7am, first heat scheduled to hit the water at 7:45 

Registrations must be done online in advance.  SPSC Members are free entry to all SPSC Surf Comps. 

And our standard Open comp details:

• Three divisions will be run depending on numbers: Mens, Womens and Juniors.
• There will be a heat progression system in place including a repercharge round so every surfer will compete at least twice.
• Final placings on the day will earn points for the annual Open SUP Surf pointscore.
• All competitors are expected to remain at the event site for the entire duration of the heats as judging is pre-allocated so everyone gets a turn to judge a heat.
• Heats will be 20 minutes long and run back to back.
• All competitors are expected to wear leg ropes and allocated coloured rash vests.
• Rides will be judged on style, length of ride, positioning, wave selection, difficulty of ride/maneuvers and all round performance. Points will be allocated in reflection to the intensity and difficulty of the moves performed.
• All competitors are expected to be at the marshalling tent around 7am, for a 7:20am riders briefing and 7:45am potential start. Given smooth running of heats this will have things wrapped up by around 1pm.
• All general surfing rules, common sense and good sportspersonship are expected at all times.
